Footlighters Theatre Workshops

What sets the Footlighters apart from other groups? It is unique in its artistic style and presentation; using workshops to involve our community of adults, young adults and children in singing, dance and drama, many for the first time. Footlighters now offers workshops in acting, playwriting, and production for pre-teen, teen and adult students.

They are designed to develop confidence and self-esteem, a sense of community, discipline, and leadership skills by immersing students in the performing arts. To involve the whole family, we invite parents and friends to their production at the end of each workshop.

Children's Workshops

This wildly popular program for children 5-15 years of age began as a weekday experimental Summer Theatre Camp in 1999. An instant success, we were asked to consider continuing these classes throughout the year. Your child will benefit from over 68+ years of Footlighters Theatre experience.

We emphasize acting ability, character building, self-esteem and teamwork through imagination exercises and acting games.
Read what the parent of one student wrote about our Summer workshop...

..."This year in school, she ran and was elected her class representative. Finally, she now loves giving oral presentations in her class and it used to be such an ordeal! Now she critiques her classmates! I just wanted to let you know the difference the program made for her. She is looking forward to returning and she has told all of her friends about the workshop!"...

Learn audition techniques needed to land that special role. Experience the technical aspects of theatre including stage managment, lights, sound, costumes, props and set decoration. At the end of the session, an on-stage performance will be presented for family and friends.

Each session will differ slightly for those who wish to enroll in successive classes.

Young Adult Workshops

During the summer months, while annual repair and maintenance are being preformed in the theatre facility, The Young Adult Workshop and its instructors turn their full attention to preparing for their full-scale theatre production. Students aged 15-22 hone their acting skills through a variety of improvisational exercises, monologues, and concentrated scene study, customized to the ability level and interest of the student.

In addition, they learn about the technical aspects of putting on a show, including lighting, sound, set construction, costumes and makeup. Held in late August, students are responsible for publicity, ticketing, hospitality and theatre management of their show.

While attending the Workshop, young adults experience the camaraderie of team work as they learn new, innovative skills with materials and equipment they have never before been exposed to. Director Kevin Esmond has created an educational program to help high school and college students learn about and participate in the fundamental aspects of community theatre.

Under mentoring supervision, students design and build sets, create lighting and sound plots, organize costume and make-up designs, stage manage, crew and perform in the finalized production slated to be performed for the public in late August.

We hope the program will teach the students not only the basics of theatre, but also the entire creative process that it takes for a community theatre to produce a show. It will greatly serve those students wishing to pursue opportunities in the creative arts.

Students from around the area - Cinnaminson, Mt. Laurel, Marlton, Palmyra,
Delran, Lindenwold, Mt. Holly, Medford, Moorestown, and more - meet several times a week all summer to work on the production. Participants range in age from rising high school sophomores to recent college graduates, including students studying theatre as far away as West Virginia, Maryland, and New York.
