THIS SUMMER'S SHOW - Horror Stories

Inspired by the banned horror comic publications of the 1950's and 1960's (such as Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror, and more), the Intern Co. will present a night of terrifying tales to life - Horror Stories!

Horror Stories will be an original adaptation of existing material, as Intern Co. combines multiple stories for a chilling night of never-before-seen theatre! Once again the Intern Co. will compose an original score to be played live each night, and act in every role - but this summer will see the Interns combining to storyboard and script the stories, as well as seeing unprecedented opportunities for students interested in make-up and special effects!

Any student interested in theatre, storytelling, filmmaking or design should contact interns@bcfootlighters.com to join South Jersey's most creative arts community! This summer's show will be a real scream!!!

Intern Company began life as Footlighters' theatre education program for high school and college students - and has since taken on its own identity as one of the most daring and artistically vital theatre companies in South Jersey!

Students participating in the Intern Company learn about theatre by handling every aspect of mounting a full-scale show: from acting, costuming, make-up and effects, writing and composing original music, designing and building a set, marketing, publicity and more!

Throughout the program's 8-year history, members of the Intern Company have tackled such challenges as Shakespeare, musical theatre, period melodrama, complicated sets (including a 270+ gallon pool!) and more. Students have gone from participating in the Intern Co. to working as professional actors and directors, and have had this to say:

"Working with the Intern Co. was one of the most enjoyable working experiences I've ever had and I can't wait to do it again."

"...it was so great to put on a good, entertaining show, and just have fun. It really reminded me of why I wanted to pursue theatre in the first place. It's about doing good work, learning something, sharing something, and having fun."

"I love our edge! I could have done a musical, but Metamorphoses was incredibly enriching."

"The best place to spend a summer is with the Intern Company at Burlington County Footlighters."

INTERESTED IN JOINING?

Intern Company is a rare opportunity for creative students to really engage in their art in a collaborative setting. Intern Company is looking to add actors, artists, designers, musicians and writers for what's sure to be a thrilling summer.

To get involved, simply e-mail interns@bcfootlighters.com. The Intern Co. meets 3 nights a week throughout most of the summer, working toward a final performance in mid-August.

Because Intern Company was designed with students (between the ages of 15 and 20) in mind, we understand commitments such as college visits, family vacations, etc. Simply submit conflicts to the director at the beginning of the summer.

Under the supervision of Footlighter mentors, Intern Company students are given the opportunity to spend the summer mounting their own community theatre production, where the students themselves are responsible for set and lighting design, costumes and make-up, acting and stage management, and even publicity and ticket sales.

"I've been proud of their efforts since we started - a comedy called Don't Mention My Name, with a cast of 8 and a crew of 4, was our first show, and in just three years we'd moved on to Stage Door, a 1930's melodrama with a cast of 23, a crew of 8, full period costumes and hair, and challenging material, director Kevin Esmond said."
